Why do we blog?

So, I have joined the blogging nation.  The first thing I wanted to do was sit down and figure out why I wanted to blog.  Who really cares about what I think?  There are thousands of people blogging everyday.  What makes my blog special?  Then the answer comes to me.  Because I want to.  Because I have thoughts in my head that I sometimes cannot express.  Because I have things I want my children to know about me that I may not be able to tell them clearly and someday they can just read it for themselves.  I blog because I can.

Since this is my first post, I don’t intend to make it especially long or witty.  I do however want to at least make an attempt to answer the question completely.  The question is why do we blog?  I believe everyone blogs for one reason.  It reminds me of City Slicker’s:

Curly: Do you know what the secret of life is?
[holds up one finger]
Curly: This.
Mitch: Your finger?
Curly: One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don’t mean shit.
Mitch: But, what is the “one thing?”
Curly: [smiles] That’s what *you* have to find out.

So, I blog because of my one thing and everyone else blogs because of their one thing.  Does that mean my one thing is better than their one thing?  No, of course not.  But it does mean I have a purpose for blogging, whatever that purpose may be and to me it is special.  So I blog.  And the blogging has begun.
